Consciousness's Axioms as Haiku
Or a different way to look at things
Consciousness is an emergent property of an emergent property;
as the rising tide
lifts all boats, they elevate
the community
Consciousness uses a feed-forward mechanism to actively predict future patterns;
the need to protect
don’t look down, do look ahead
I’m here to project
Consciousness is the most advanced survival mechanism;
finicky author
fiery prognosticator
final survivor
Consciousness is complex at every level;
from the bottom to
the top: intricate patterns
go all the way up
Consciousness enables recognition of the alien;
the stranger inside
in some way recognises
the alien outside
Consciousness is extremely flexible;
change is here to stay
not constant, but capricious
keep coma at bay
Author’s note: actually, I wanted to post a lengthier piece about ‘the paradox at the heart of IIT’, but I couldn’t get it ready in time. Hopefully next week. So instead a little placeholder, more loose ruminations about the axioms of consciousness. Sometimes, when my mind hasn’t quite settled on a certain topic, I find it helpful to rephrase my thoughts in a different medium, in order to let other types of light in.
